Wedding Cake - 10th August 2013

Hi Everyone

Ok I'm busy preparing lots of projects for blogs and the next CC inspiration magazine which will be out in October but i really just had to spend 5 mins to share these photos with you.

I stopped make cakes a while ago as i ad made so many and just really had lost interest and the main issue is its extremely stressful making wedding cakes.  I just kept thinking about if it went wrong etc etc and the thought of letting someone down after they had looked forward to their wedding day for so long.  After all it should be just once in a lifetime that you have a wedding cake, (although I've nothing against anyone being married two or three or even more times).

So a friend a just to work with ages and ages ago got in touch via facebook and asked if i would make a wedding cake for his daughter and my first reaction was to say no but i said yes (how hard is it to say no to people.......)  And here it is.  It was Charlotte's wedding yesterday and Paul and Susan you should be so proud she looks stunning and i hope you all had a fab day.

I am so pleased i said yes as i really enjoyed making and icing the cake, its been so long that i thought i had forgotten.

Just stunning.......  The bride and groom that is.

Ok back to my crafting.........

Hope you like it.

More cakes

Hi everyone

No cards today or for the last couple of days and still don't have a colour cartridge sorted for my printer, i may have to go and buy one before my replacement gets delivered.

Anyway i thought i would use this opportunity to post more of my cakes on my blog as i have had some lovely comments.

This first one is a castle wedding cake and i am so annoyed at myself for not making sure i had a good photograph.  The light  was shining in through the window and the whole picture does not do the cake justice.  This was for a young girl who was only 18 or 19 and she wanted her fairytale wedding.  She had seen this cake in a wedding magazine and asked if i could do it so i gave it a try.  There are 2 tiers of cake and i made everything from scratch including the castle top from pastillage icing which dries hard so you can build shapes.  The only things that are not edible are the ribbon on the steps and the windows. The window's are made with some sort of crafty product that i can't remember the name of, you iron it together and it fuses in all sorts of shiny colours.  Leann and i were talking about what i could use and she suggested this and it worked perfectly.    The red roses and lilies are all made from flowerpaste and the castle top on the original magazine picture was bought and made from polystyrene.  However i made the template my self from a card board box and cut each individual piece of icing out and joined it together with royal icing.  I've added a close up below and then painted the turrets in edible colouring.  I've got to say empty crunchy nut cornflake boxes come in handy for all sorts of uses.  They came to pick the cake up themselves and it nearly wouldn't fit into their car it was so big.
My second cake is a christening cake and again i used my skills with an empty cereal box.
Again a friend had seen this design on a website and asked if i could adapt it for their little girls christening.  The booties are made of icing and each flower is cut out and stuck on indiviually.  Although the booties were tricky to make and very detailed  the rest of the cake is quite simple and i just loved the finsihed result.

hope you like them.

Birthday Cakes

I think i am becoming addicted to this blogging malarkey!!!!  Thought i would add a few of my birthday cakes for you.

This one is for a friends grans 80th Birthday and I loved doing all of the intricate lacework in royal icing.  Very detailed but really satisfying when you see the end result i think.  Loved making the roses, leaves and flowers as well and assembling them into a spray.

And my second cake below is totally different, for a friend who is  an avid Newcastle united football supporter and she actually got me to go along to my very first football match at St James park a few years ago.  Although it was a good day  i never caught the bug and think I'll keep save and warm indoors with my card and cake making, it was freezing and i had 2 tops, a fleece, a coat and a pair of leggings under my jeans.

The top is all made icing and coloured with edible pens and food colouring and the decoration was painted on by my own fair hands, ok i admit i did some tracing.  Again another satisfied customer.
Back soon with some more cards and cakes.

More than just cards

Hi all, I thought as i had not posted for a few days and i have not made any new cards i would add some of my cake creations.  My granduaghter, Gracie was staying with me at the weekend and she was allowed to play (carefully) with my spectrum noirs which is why i never made any cards myself.  Her first comment when seeing my new pens was 'Woah look at all the colours'.  Anyway I've added two wedding cakes below, hope you like them.

This first cake was for a friend who i worked with and they had the colour scheme of coffee and cream and wanted a cascade of roses down the front of the cake.  All of the cakes i make are all hand baked by myself and all decorating, roses, leaves and flowers are made by me as well.

I've added a close up of the roses above so you can see them a bit better and below this is also one of my favourites as it was my first wedding cake with 4 tiers and using columns.  Very scary.

Again it was for a work colleague and i just loved making the sugar lilies, very effective.
